Hi all,

Just got up and running with my new A7V/Tbird 1GHz, but I have a problem with DMA.
I have my hard disk connected as primary master on the ATA-100 controller, and my CD/DVD drive connected as primary master on the standard controller. The trouble is, if I tick DMA in control panel/system/CD drive properties, when I reboot Windows does not see the CD/DVD drive anymore. If I untick and reboot, everything is fine. Obviously, I want to enable DMA for optimal DVD playback. Anyone else seen this problem or got any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Dave.

P.S. I'm using Win98SE and I've got the 4-in-1 driver which came with the board installed.

Maybe someone has a fix for this, but my experience with VIA chipsets/cdrom's/DMA have always been bad. When I say bad I mean, I can enble DMA with no problems, but when installing softare or other heavy use of cd-rom drives produce errors.

Sometimes when installing the via 4in1 drivers the installer doesn't update the hd-controllers properly. You may try updating them manually using the drivers that came with the 4in1. When you look at properties for the drivers it should read in the manufactor section Via technologies instead of darn Microsoft.
Also remember to set the correct PIO/DMA settings in bios.

Weird.

I've moved my hard disk off the ATA-100 controller onto the primary IDE as Master, and moved the DVD drive onto the secondary IDE as master, and I can now successfully select DMA on both devices.
