I have two computer systems. The first one is my Main computer.
Abit BH6 rev SS
256 Ram
Plex 40x
Plex 121032a
Adaptec 2930 SCSI card
30 gb IBM
Banshee Video Card
Second computer
Unknown BX motherboard
Afreey 50x 2050e CD-ROM
128 ram
TNT 16 meg
8 gb hd
Here is the problem. I researched at www.cdspeed2000.com in hopes of finding a cd-rom that would do DAE at a fast enough rate to keep up with the Plex 121032 at 12x on the fly. I have now problems on system one with the UltraPlex 40x. However I bought the Afreey 50x reading that the DAE and the DATA transfer were quick. Here is the Problem.
On system one (abit) , I installed the 50x cdrom to the Abit Motherboard. I made sure DMA was turned on and I was getting ONLY 10x DAE and 18x transfer rate with CDSPEEDs program. CPU Loads are like up to 50% (CDSPEED ranks this drive 23x DAE and 34x transfer rate). I made sure the Bios had DMA installed and I left them at AUTO. I am mad that I am not getting the result I wanted.
So I decide to use the cdrom on system two. I made sure DMA was on and re-ran the test for dae and transfer rate on this computer. BAM!!! I got the fast 23x DAE and the 35x transfer rate and CPU load is max at 8%. So I then rehooked the drive to ABit and I still get the low transfer and DAE rates.
Now my question is this. Is my Abit DMA not turned on or broken? What can I do to get DMA really tuned on. My Plextor 121032a doesnt' even do the fast DAE it is supposed to. Do different Motherboards have different DMA methods. I would like to get the DMA working on my ABIT.
