The DMA for my Sony-DVD R/W has turned off for some reason. The reading/writing speed has gone slow because of it running in PIO mode.

I tried every method like physically removing IDE cable and reinserting, deleting and reinstalling ROM driver, checking whether the master/slave jumper is set correctly for shared primary IDE (of one of my HDD and the DVD-R/W) and still the problem persists.

Any suggestions? Please help me get rid of this irritating problem.

Do you have 3rd party software that you use for CD burning? Roxio, Nero? They can sometimes disable features like that.

IF you read discs that have bad sectors, it can cause the drive to slow down into PIO mode. Remove your IDE driver in Device Manager and let it re-install.
