I have a Via 686A southbridge (asus k7m mainboard) and previously had used Via's last IDE bus master miniport driver set with absolutely no problems. Don't ask why, but i decided to update my drivers to the latest Via bus master miniport driver set - and suddenly, my secondary hdd (on either primary or slave) does NOT function properly (when writing) with DMA enabled. I uninstalled the drivers and used Windows' default drivers, and the problem recurred. I reinstalled an older Via busmaster driver set and the problem recurred. I uninstalled them and am currently using their latest driver set with the same problem. It seems i can't get rid of it now.
Is it possible the drivers (+ OS) are causing the DMA malfunction of ONLY my secondary hdd (the secondary DVD-ROM works fine w/ DMA enabled, as does the primary hdd), or could it be a physical malfunction of the actual hdd?
Thanks a ton (especially if you have a correct answer!)
