DMA mode in CD/DVD drives

Windows Xp doesn¡t want to activate DMA mode in my CD/DVD drives. At the beginning of the instalation of WXPSP1 the drives were recognized as DMA but after a while WXp only recognize them as PIO and the CD/DVD drives performance is horrible, how can I bring back the DMA mode to my optical drives?
