DMA enabled on onboard raid slots?

galt

I have the promise chip and I'm using it as an ultra100 controller. Two single master hdds on the two controllers to be exact. Except I tried copying a 100 meg file from one to the other and my cpu usage shot up to 70% during the copying process. This leads me to think that dma isn't enabled on these two ultra100 slots. Happens in Windows 2k and in XP as well. I have the Via 4in1 installed. Also, I have the pci latency patch for 2k, but that still doesn't help.

Any ideas?

Raid will be seen as SCSI by the OS, not IDE, therefore DMA will not be available. Copying takes a lot of the CPU so you should expect it to shoot up...

Then how would you explain the fact that when you copy over from one hdd to another on regular ide slots, the usage doesn't go above 20%?
