Hey buddy :) Why not try a projector? You can shoot the image right on the wall and with a decent unit you can get an unbelieveable pic and you can sorta pick the size screen you want!

Screen size is related to the distance you sit from the display and the resolution, not the size of the room. Define the distance and resolution, and there are graphed equations out there for optimal display sizes.

I don't know if this is in Yoyo's stickied thread, but here is an example of an interactive calculator: Text

For example, putting in a distance of 10', 16:9 ratio, 60" screen and hitting "Calculate", the results show that 60" screen is too small for both SMPTE and THX protocols. For 1080P, the optimal viewing distance for a 60" screen according to THX is 7.8'.

Here is a chart

If you have a shoebox dimensioned room (normal closed rectangular room), then there are other guidelines especially if you care about any sort of audio quality in addition to video quality. Some guidelines include (but are not restricted to): Listening/view position should never be against a wall for any dimensioned room. There should be some symmetry to the left and right of the listening position. Even fractions of room dimensions give very non-linear bass response in addition to whatever other response linearity problems that exist.

2k$ can get you an entry level 1080P projector and an entry level screen perhaps.
