DLP Rear Projection TV Owners

Do these TV's show rainbows like projectors?

Most people don't notice them. I can see them at random and on some projectors it's annoying as ever.

Cheers!

They do just as much as any single chip front projector using the same colorwheel speed, set to the same brightness, given the same screen area, on the same source material.

Projection? Rear?huh?? I only know of the projectiles that come out of my rear when crapping, and no they are not rainbow coloured...😉

I see rainbows in DLP's. I haven't seen any of the really new models with 3 chips.
How many 3-chip DLPs have you seen? Most still have 1-chip that I'm aware of (unless you're willing to pay a small fortune).

I USED to see rainbows on my Sammy, but I really don't anymore. I think I've just trained my eyes to avoid them - weird.

I haven't seen any newer DLP models. Last one I saw was at least a year ago.

With my 1st set(samsung hln507) I would see rainbows but not that often. Now I have a samsung hlp5085 & I almost never see them. Keep in mind the only time I do see them is when I turn my head away from the set. In that moment when Im turning my head & my eyes are moving from the screen to an area away from the set is when the rainbows appear.

I have a 65 inch mitsu wide screen rear projection TV and have no rainbows.

and to all who were talking about dlps, those are not rear projection

DLP can be rear projection. Stores are filled with DLP RPTVs. WTF have you been?

And CRT based RPTVs don't have the rainbow problem.

The rainbows are weird. They never really appear at any given scene. It's truly random. It's like a subliminal message that you are picking up bits and pieces of!

I remember seeing them on a RP DLP set a while ago and I just thought it had something to do with refraction of light on the screen. Then I saw them during movies projected on a wall (huge screen) and recall reading about the "rainbow problem" with DLP's.

Where I noticed it the most was looking back towards the projector (5500 lumens!) from across the room and the rainbow sparkles in the beams cast in the room dust was quite noticeable and freaky.

Some people claim that if they've had a few drinks the rainbows go away...

Perhaps I'll have to try this tomorrow. 🙂

Cheers!

yes they are. They project the image onto a rear mirror.
😉

they're just not CRT rear projection.

I had never actually looked at a dlp long enough to know what people were talking about. thank you for that example

that is the best example of what a "rainbow" is on a DLP tv. The newest of the new samsung DLP sets have a seven segement color wheel, which is said to reduce the rainbow effect by a lot. http://www.digiupdate.com/105_DLP_RPTV.html
