I'm just looking to discuss issues relating specifically to DLP projection of a computer-driven image. Everything from cabling, to dot clocks, and Faroudja scaling.

In my situation, I generate a 1280x720 image with a 7900 GTX, which is output through a DVI-VGA adapter, to a 25' shielded VGA-to-VGA cable. This is then passed to a NEC LT240K dlp projector which scales it internally for display.

I currently have some issues with overscan (running custom modeline under linux), and would appreciate any advice others might have, if they've had experience like mine. I'd also offer my assisstance to anyone asking the same. Please post setup if responding.

I don't understand the subject in great detail, but I did research it a while ago and came to the conclusion that some sets support 1:1 pixel mapping from input while others scale and/or overscan whatever input they're given on certain - sometimes all - ports.

The PC-like ports such as HDMI/DVI and VGA are normally only included for use with consumer electronics products which have traditionally differ too much in resolution to expect 1:1 pixel mapping, so the TV manufacturers don't care about it either.

There is one major exception to this. Projection TVs which advertise themselves as PC compatible are generally going to accept their native resolution as a PC user expects. These TVs also tend to cost more.

There's always the odd set that doesn't do quite what you want it to do no matter how much tweaking, so if you're hooking up a PC to it, you should research the exact model and see whether it did 1:1 (and if so what was required to make it work), or you should buy a TV from some place which allows free, unconditional returns. Sam's club has that policy AFAIK.
