LCD and DLP are both great, its more of a personal preference. Sony Grand Wega LCD's are great quality IMO. However the DLP just has a better looking picture IMO.
DLPs aren't bad if you don't see the rainbow effect. For me, however, I couldn't stand the rainbows so I went with the Sony KDF-E50A10. I don't regret my decision for a moment; the picture is absolutely stunning with Hi-Def content and better than most RPTVs on standard-def content.Originally posted by: purbeast0

My brother loves his new Samsung 1080p DLP 61" set.
Some people notice rainbows if they look for them (he hasn't noticed any) but the newer models have supposedly really reduced this. Best is to go into a store and look for yourself.
I'm currently leaning towards getting the 50" Samsung 1080p (the -8 series) for about $3,200 if I get it locally or from an authorized seller like Crutchfield (less if I went grey market)

Picture always looked the best whenever I compared to any similar sets in stores. Much cheaper than the 1080p DLPs. Samsung DLPs are notorious for gaming lag, as are a few other DLP sets out there - so be careful about getting a DLP if you are a console gamer. Has VGA input so you can hook a pc right up to it. Best black levels of any LCD projection tv.
SXRD sets are superior but they are about twice as expensive, so it wasn't really a consideration for me.

just so you know, those TV's dont display 1080p. they only take in 1080p sources and display them as 1080i. just a heads up.
a TRUE 1080p HDTV, that displayts 1080p, costs over $10K.

The Samsung -8 series display 1080p but only take in 1080i and 720p from the HDMI input.

I prefer LCOS to DLP & LCD so I'm getting the JVC 1080p 70" pro version. It can take 1080p over HDMI, I am not sure which framerates. BTW The samsung doesn't display 1080p it's resolution is 960x1080 vs 1200x1080 so it's a close approximation. The black levels on the DLP are pretty sweet though.

i am not a high dollar charlie like you..
how much is that TV?
jC
Nope, the -8 series displays 1920x1080 (16:9 aspect ratio). It uses a 960x1080 chip but 2 mirrors for the full 1920 addressable pixels.Originally posted by: MagicConch

Well if you look at a CRT one way it only has _1_ pixel (the electron gun). The "wobbulation" does refresh all 1920x1080 pixels individually and refreshes them every frame, so I accept that as 1080p just like I accept the resolution of a CRT.Originally posted by: MagicConch
That is interesting, are you saying it uses 2 DMDs?
edit: oh you are talking about the wobble thing. There are different ways of looking at that re: 1080p reproduction.

Have you seen 1080i on one of the 1080p sets? Tell me you don't notice a difference between that and your 720p set!!!Originally posted by: Rickten
what content is 1080p? upconverted dvd (blah). Honestly why waste money now on 1080p native displays. Not even HDTV comes in 1080p. I mean its bleading edge tech that really can't be used without deinterlacing and upconverting. I love reading threads on avsforum about guys bitching about lag on games that are output from the xbox at 480p and come to 1080p on the screen. Seriously just get a nice 720p that is possibly in the second or third gen and pay half of what you would with a 1080 native screen.
