DLP gaming lag?

I am shopping for a RP HDTV, and it sounds like DLP offers the best performance for the money. I have some concerns that gaming on DLP may be a problem, and I've heard that the lag on the Samsung sets is particularly bad. Does anyone have any input on this? I would be using an Xbox and PC, and ultimately probably an Xbox 360.

Thanks!

Haven't noticed any lag on my Infocus 4805 DLP projector while playing N64, NES, or computer games. Don't know if that would apply to RP DLP though.

More useless advice, I've tried two DLP projectors and both worked well with PS2. My understanding is that for RP DLP you really get what you pay for.

My cousin has a 54" WS Toshiba that I believe he said was DLP projection. I've seen a lot of games played on it (Xbox mostly) and they were all EXCELLENT!

According to a poster on Ars Tech there is lag: Arrrs Matey

Two words: VIDEO LAG.

The new Samsung displays (xx67, xx68/78) have a nasty problem with video lag. That is to say, when video is input, there is about a 100ms video delay between input and display. This can cause problems in twitch games like Halo 2, DDR, etc. The work around is to change the input mode/label to "GAME". However this only works with 480i analog input. Turn on progressive output on your Xbox and the lag comes back. Think you're going to look hot with the PS3 hooked up via HDMI or the X360 over VGA? Good luck playing any game which requires twitch reflexes.

In the Samsung 1080p Owners thread at the AVS forums, there are discussions about video lag ad what effects it has (there was one good post about using the kickoff in a football game to see what effect it has on timing.

This video lag also has a negative impact on audio/video sync when using an external receiver. Most people have discovered they need to set an audio delay of 80-125ms.

Oh, and FWIW, I bought a 6168W for a good deal (AVS powerbuy). I figure I can sell it in a year and get a TV and hopefully they'll have fixed it. And my 61" is only 18" deep.

^^^ As doormat says, video lag has been a nasty problem that largely turned me away from HDTV sets thus far. The picture may be beautiful, but games needing split second inputs must not not have video lag + human reaction time + video lag to see an action response.

I've played games on a Sony Wega with de-interlacing enabled for a composite input PS2, and the first thing I noticed was how far off my timing was. It's a huge issue, particularly when the display is natively progressive scan.

It seems to me that the worst it should be is 50ms when deinterlacing (3 input frames @ 60 Hz --> 50ms), not 100ms and higher. "
