DLNA user access control

I can never get consistent connections to my Windows shares on Android using SAMBA. It'll work fine and the next minute I can't access it anymore. Seems a restart will get things going again but I don't want to have to restart it every time.

I was suggested to setup DLNA instead as it is much more efficient at streaming media but does this provide any type of user access control? I don't want any device to just have full access to the shares.
