I will provide some back story regarding what exactly happened so that you will be able to better help me!
One day a couple weeks ago I was doing my regular computer routine. (messing with photoshop and 3dsmax while surfing the net) I decided to take a nap. That is where this story goes to complete hell. I woke up from my nap went to my PC and there is a warning up that says I don't have enough memory to run this program. What program I thought? I have been napping. besides I have never even got close to not having enough memory (512 megs) so I did a control alt delete to see what was going on. To my disbelief there must have been 200 vbscripts running. I quickly restarted and when it rebooted I found that nearly every one of my programs turned to mush.
By mush now I mean that nearly every program says there are required .dll's missing when I try to start them. For each program it is different dll's. I needed to reinstall windows to even connect back on the net. The real problem though is that it won't let me uninstall or install over anything. Including games (max payne) or programs (3dsMAX) or even my cd-burner software. I have an extremely large paper weight it seems. When I DO try to uninstall or re-install through using the utility on the disks I get-
Unhandled Exception
error number: 0x80070725
Description: Incompatible version of the RPC stub
If I try to uninstall with add-remove programs it says that The program has probably already been uninstalled and asks if I would like to remove from the list. The folders for the programs and games are still there though. UGH
I wish I knew what happened during that 1 hour nap. I am thinking either my computer got broken into, or a virus just decided to randomly wreak havok during that time.
I am running windows 98
Thank you very much for ANY info you can come up with. ANY thing at all that would help me get my PC back to its original self would make my day.
Merry christmas!
