Hi all,
Friday morning:
Tried to install HP TopTools on my NetServer (LH3000). It requires SNMP to be
installed, so I did. After installing SNMP, and applying SP 6a, I got the
following error message while booting the Server (running NT 4.0 Server OS):
STOP: c0000269 {Illegal system DLL Relocation}
The system DLL kernel32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will
not run properly. The relocation occurred because the DLL
C:\WINNT\System32\user32.dll occupied an address range reserved for Windows
NT system DLLs. The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new
DLL.
I tried booting in VGA mode, but with no luck. Also tried booting into "Last
Known Good Configuration", but no luck there as well.
So I took a Ghost image of the HD, and replaced two DLL's - user32 & kernel32. After doing that, I got this error message:
STOP: c0000139 {Entry Point Not Found}
The procedure entry point IntializeLpkHooks could not be located in the dynamic link liberary USER32.dll.
After reading This, I replaced 3 DLL's: user32, kernel32 & gdi32 using the DLL's from the SP6a CD, all being version 4.0.1381.336.
After doing ALL this, the server finally booted, but with various errors. Here's the current situation:
I tried to reapply the SP, but it wouldn't finish the installation. It gets to the "Finishing Installation" part, but gets stuck there. I left it running like that for more than 24 hours, but it never finished the process.
Another strange thing- when I view the DLL's properties from the Server, the version is 4.00, but when I view them from my machine (Windows 2000 Pro, SP1), the version is 4.0.1381.336.
Now, here's my real problem:
This is an Exchange Server, so I'm not real keen to restart it, and get another BSOD, which means more downtime. I'm also disturbed by the fact that the SP6 installation didn't end properly. I'm also hoping I won't need to reinstall the OS.
Is there any workaround? Something that would let me boot the machine without crossing my fingers? It is working, but I have a few services which were unable to start (Intel File Transfer, NAV Client).
Any help would be highly appreciated.
Regards,
