DLink Wireless G PCI Adapter Issue

I recently encountered a connection issue with my new wireless adapter--it doesn't connect until 5min after startup. During that 5min, computer would be very slow as if XP is trying connect with the network. You know, nothing seems to work at that time. When I first installed it, it connected okay but recently it has been like that more frequently. It should not be the problem of the wireless router which I have used it for a few months now and it never drop on my laptop. Once connected (after a 5min or so) everyone is running fine.

Can anyone suggest what I can do with this issue? Reinstall the adapter? reinstall the driver? install a bigger antenna to the adatper? (which I did but signal is still at "Very Good")

My questions are:
1. What is causing it?
2. How can I fix it?

Please help, thanks!!

Glenn
