Dlink router problem

So I'm over at my mom's house and trying to setup her wireless network and its is being quite a pain the the butt. I am trying to get wireless internet on her Viao with WirelessG using a DLink router connected to her sweeeeeet fiber optic setup.

Anyway, the Viao is not getting the IP address assigned correctly, taking some random IP I have not seen (when auto IP and auto DHCP is set). When I manually assign the routers IP address as the DHCP or manually set an IP within the valid range it still doesn't work... (no connection to the internet).

The wireless router shows the computer MAC address as connected, and the laptop says it is connecting to the network.

Another computer is wired to the router and works fine.

I'm thinking its a firewall/software setting on the laptop (it runs WinXP) or the router... but she says the laptop has run fine on a coffeeshops WAN.

Any tips?

Thomas
