DLink or Netgear?

I need to expand the output of an Orange ADSL 'Livebox' to network, via CAT5E, some PCs and Logitech 'Squeezeboxes'. I have come down to a choice of the DLink DES-1008D, Netgear FS608 and FS108 (the FS608 in a metal box at twice the price?!).

Does anybody have a view as to the better choice?

Cheers.

DLink since I heard a few good things about them, not much on Netgear but it's really everyone's own preference.

When it comes to simple 10/100 switches it does not matter.

I would say Nay to both since you probably can find something less expensive to begin with.

Brand name per-se really means Nothing since they all buy from the same OEMs, and many times under the hood it is the same core whether you buy from one manufacturer or the other.

There are specific Model of D-Link that are good some mediocre, and many Bad.

Similarly can be said about Netgear and any other Entry Level Network hardware's manufacturer.

I've used both on the low end spectrum.. I had issues with some DLINK wireless network cards Gold Edition.. However I did have about 40-50 users on two different access points for a year solid without a power cycle, and had zero problems with DLINK.. I had a 24 port non-managed Netgear switch with a media converter and it worked great for what I paid.. I would go with whatever is cheapest between the two.
