I currently have 3 PC's connected to this with my cable modem connected via a crossover cable to one of the regular ports. This switch has an uplink port which is supposed to allow you to use a regular straight cable when using that port. Problem is, the switch will not let me use the uplink port with a straight cable, only a crossover cable to any other port. Am I doing something wrong?

The port on your cable modem is effectively an "uplink". You can't run straight Cat5 from uplink to uplink.

Nevermind, I read up on Spanning Tree, guess I never waited the full 30 seconds. I now have a straight cable between the modem and uplink on the switch.
