Dlink DI-604

My router gives me a timeout everytime I try to renew the IP (DHCP thing/WAN). It doesn't get my IP address or anything...and the internet won't connect...help?

This happens to almost all the SOHO routers I've seen, not only DLink's DI-604.
You need to power off both cable / DSL modem and the router, then turn them back on to renew the IP. Turn on the modem first, wait for all the diags to pass, then turn on the router.

I tried that before and it didn't work, but it doesn't hurt to try again. Do you think the new firmware screwed it up? It worked great before on some older ones.

Residential grade network equipment doesn't always work the way you want them to...once I had to clone MAC address after firmware upgrade.
You can give it a try, or revert back to the previous firmware version. A friend of mine had a DI-5xx, which wouldn't work w/ any new firmware other than the original.

It still says renew IP timeout. It never did this before on XP, and I even had it set up on Vista a while ago. It was actually working a couple days ago on Vista, but randomly stopped working.

BTW I'm using InsightBB.

Update: I booted into XP, and the router work automatically, but for some reason it would not load up the setup page or anything for the router (as if it wasn't hooked up). It still worked though. On Vista, however, the router will not work, but it will load up the setup page and all that...

Also, I tried to reinstall/activate my internet (in case that was the problem, because it works without installing), yet it always says it can't connect to the server (on both XP and Vista).

Any help?

If you can't connect to the management page of router, first try a static IP on your PC. If that still doesn't work, reset router to factory default.
Otherwise, ditch it and get a new router.
They're so cheap nowadays that it's not worth spending much time on it.
