DJ'ing with digitial music

What are the good programs out there that have some neat bells and whistles to do this sort of thing? The only ones I've seen pretty much have a cross fader and numerous channels. Big whoop.

Any add-on hardware to hook up to a PC/laptop to make DJ'ing with mp3's better? I just always thought this would be kind of fun to get into...

The hardware will allow you to be as "analog" as possible.

Basically, you need a wheel to scratch well. You've ALWAYS needed a wheel to scratch well.

Agreed, but I also think that this can be accomplished with a electronic wheel used with digital music.

not really lookign to scratch and do that kind of DJ'ing... just mixing various songs together, beat matching, sound effects.... that sort of thing

I've always looked for soemthing that could strip the lyrics out of a song and make it instrumental, but i've been told it's pretty impossible with a compressed mp3

My favorite radio station does all their DJing with Winamp 2.9 and a basic external 16-channel mixer to handle the mix between the computer and transmitter (Basically, the computer and the various microphones are plugged into it)

They're a rock station, so they don't have to worry about silly things like scratch.

There are a few freeware plugins that will allow you to add sound effects (Look at the DSP plugin section of classic.winamp.com) and crossfading (This is typically done by an output plugin)

I played around with tracktor DJ studio to mix some tracks I don't own on vinyl. If you have any experience with real turntables/equipment then this setup is very similar. It also has BPM counting integrated though you'll have to key in the snares to get an accurate BPM.
Tracktor DJ studio 2.0 I think they have a trial version.

I idea behind final scratch is great. No chance to try it yet, but I've heard the lag time (delay) is really short so it's almost like playing a real record. But make sure you buy a good turntable to compliment it.

Final scratch is the only real useable electronic / hardware cross over device.
It's definatly not that great though.

The programs out there are exactly what they are, programs. They give you no real physical control over the music.

well that's a crummy way of looking at it 🙁

i used to play around w/ native-instruments traktor, midi-mapped it w/ my m-audio radium keyboard (controling tempo), and i had 2 outputs from PC into my Pioneer DJM500 external mixer.

it was really cool, cuz i could mix the latest unreleased tracks like big name DJs
