Hello Gentlemen/Ladies

My goal is simple - to watch TV in the bath without fear of wetting it or electrocuting me, and no, I absolutely will not under any circumstances pay £1500 for one (8"!) from a company that specialises in it.. they are money grabbing peeps!! (aren't we all..)

Research carried out and results:
- You can buy relatively inexpensive flat screen displays, but they aren't waterproof.
- Not only must the screen be waterproof (an absolute must considering how vigourously I play with my bright yellow rubber duck..) but mist/steam proof - which isn't as easy as it sounds, the vents on displays are there for a reason! - and flush mounting it into the wall isn't an option, it needs to be mounted at an angle on my wall by way of a bracket.
- Power, not so much of a problem, the majority of the displays I have seen would make it fairly simple to remove the AC input, replace with a rubber cover and wire the electricity up internally (rather than with an AC plug) - wiring it upto the juice would have to be done through an acceptable PSU with circuit trip etc.
- Sound isn't a problem either, can either route the cable into waterproof speakers and set them in the roof or wire directly from the display if supported.
- I have had a good look around for something that converts from a satellite cable signal to RGB for direct connection to the display - no luck yet!
I am not so bothered about watching TV through it as I am more interested in supplying a sat signal to it - imagine it, in the bath, playing with your duck, watching Jaws... imagine the realism :p

Anyway, a few thoughts, anyone like to discuss? - This would be a good opportunity for a lot of us to get a fancy bathroom with minimum expense!

Best Regards

Nick

sounds cool! have you thought about a plexiglas shell with an anti-fog coating? you could have a hole in the back for all the wiring and just seal it off with a neoprene 'glove' or something. let me know how it goes.

You might want to consider a air flow if it is one of the inexpensive ones that has the power adapter built in, they can heat up and cause distortion in the screens. just my $.02. Ohh and I would think you could get some of those screen couts and glue/attach that to a plastic couting that could wrap around the unit and come in back and seal around the cords and a vent. then cut out around a bracket which it would then be sealed around. just a suggestion.
