DIY Tire Repair kit

Has anyone ever used one of these kits to fix a tire? I like doing things on my own, but I wonder if these are any good. Any experiences?

No problems at all here using plugs for many years, even if there are some who would disagree. Easy to use and permanent.
Avoid the fix a flat in an aerosol can, as they will cause the tire to be out of balance. Tire shops really hate the stuff.

i thought the plugs were a temporary fix to get you to a tire shop. we're talking about the kind that look like a giant needle where you thread in the sticky stuff and ream it into the tire right? those are permanent fixes?

You shouldn't put them in your veyron and run it up to 254mph to test it, but for normal driving, it'll work fine.

Do you think they're all pretty much the same or are their some you should stay away from?

They are all about the same. Rubber is rubber.
Personally I prefer to patch from the inside of the tire
but a plug will work except in very high performance use.

It's all vulcanized rubber. Patches are a PITA since it involves unmounting and remounting the tire so most shops I've worked at do plugs. 5 minutes and $1 later, it works just as well for 99% of all drivers.

Cheap $20 jack from walmart along with a cheap air compressor, and having the tire plug kit will become your best friend and pay for itself if you should help stranded motorists on the highway as they will pay you $20-$50 for saving their asses.
