DIY Tint Kits

I remember seeing a thread about these at some point, but I searched and couldn't find anything. My car is slightly tinted and I want to get it darker but don't want to pay some tint shop to do it. Are those kits that you see at autozone any good and how hard is it to do a nice job?
Clean Legend I've got better rims though.

You'll spend more on materials and time if you do it yourself, and chances are it will look like poop.

That's what I was pretty sure the general consensus was in the other thread too. How much should it run to have a pro do it?

Also, for the people with darkly tinted cars, do you get hassled by the po-po a lot?

I just got my new car tinted, my decision was: pay a guy with 15 yrs experience tinting $100 to do it perfectly with high-quality tint in 1.5hrs; OR spend all day applying $30 crappy quality tint (will turn purple in a year, and possibly bubble all over with the heat in South FL) and not doing a good job of it.

With a nice car like that, don't cheap out on something like tint. It'll make your car look completely ghetto if you don't do a really good job.

Called do it legally. For example, in Cali you can have as dark as you want around the back, even painted black. Fronts are 5% I think and windshield can have the visor strip on top. I have my backs tinted dark, fronts are darker then legal I think but not dark enough to attract attention. I had mine professionally done for $160 (all windows on a sedan) last July. Also, don't use the reflective stuff to keep discreet.

Nope, fronts are 0% allowed. :( Ask me how I know... :(

However, tinted GLASS (where the tint is mixed in the glass itself) is allowed up to 5%. Maybe that's what you're thinking of?
