DIY oil change.

I went a head and change my 07 Camry engine oil today, because my mechanic can't fit me in for an oil change appointment till the next 4 days.

I haven't change a vehicle engine oil for at least a decade, and changing oil on my Camry is the easiest oil change I have ever done. My co-worker 04 Passat took us over an hour to change the oil, because the filter required us to take off the air-duct to get to it and even then it is difficult to get to the filter. While the Camry oil filter is right at the bottom of the engine by the oil pan and readily accessible that took me less than 30 minutes to change.

This oil change is the most expensive I have ever done because I splurge and got a set of ramp for $60 instead of using my old jack & stand.

PS. For some reason my 3.5L V6 engine takes 6.1L of oil instead of the standard 4.5~5L if I recalled correctly.

End rant.

You didn't seem to be ranting so much as just writing 🙂 I tend to use my ramp more than jack for this, too, but my metal ramps have little plastic bits at the bottom that separate and offer a more gentle rise in elevation for cars with a low front end such as a murcielago or a mazda mpv, so I can get away with just using the plastic bits.

i would love to use ramps if i can 1. back into them so my car is facing outwards of the garage so i can have light, since i dont have a dual garage door and 2. if my car can fit w/o scrape-ing.

your friends 04 passat... the filter is on the driver side under your coolant tank if its a 1.8T, 3 philips screws and you pull the tank out and to the side to reach that BIG filter, the 2.8L is on the bottom like a normal filter... i'm not sure what you guys had to do with the intake..

+1 on it doesn't seem like your ranting at all. all common cars should have similiar designs to your camry. newer ones have paper filters in a housing up on top and it makes things a little easier and cleaner. no idea 3.5L v6 takes 6.1L, my 3.5 nissan wants 5qts. some BMW wants like 8-10qts.
