Sorta diy, i bought the slab from a local shop that sources it from mennonites. The town where it was made is basically off the grid, one phone/fax is there to communicate and take orders.
Would you believe this 4x8 slab was only cost $800? And it comes with a live edge to boot.

Arrived home

Testing espresso vs kona stain on the bottom, espresso was too dark, good for stairs but not table

Seems to be a pretty cool project. Why elm? $800 seems a bit steep for a 4x8 slab of joined planks, but I haven't really priced out elm before. I know that it'd be a fraction of that for oak from the Amish around here. *reminds me - wife wants our solid oak dining room table refinished; I need to remove everything from the slab on top & drop it off at one of the Amish furniture places up the road.

Did i mention that's canadian pesos? Plus this wasn't directly from the mennonites, the shop was the middleman probably upped the price a fair bit.
I tried getting oak but it wasn't available with the live edge for some reason. This was the cheapest live edge slab i could get, the next option was $2500 for a two piece slab.

Very nice.

Just out of curiosity, how did you attach the legs?
If you look at the 3rd pic of the legs you can see some 2x2 pieces attached to the inside of the plywood, then i used some screws to attach the 2x2 pieces to the bottom of the slab.
