DivX

I was wondering why more sites that have video clips don't use the DivX codec? Most still use MPEG2 or maybe Quicktime. Is there a problem with distributing video clips using the DivX codec that I'm not seeing?

In my opinion, many sites do not use DivX because they fear their user base may suffer. My 'nerdy' tech sites ight use Divx because they figure everyone will have it, mainstream sites will most likely stick to the acceptes standard (Quicktime for example)

Im not sure if this is answering your question. I guess it mainly pretains to movies in my case. I prefer Mpeg2=SVCD so I can burn Mpeg2 to SVCD so I can watch them on my Big Screen TV.
