What free open source software can I use on Windows or Linux to do this?
Can I do this with vlc, mencoder and k3b to burn?

Thanks,
Nithin.

i've found that tmpgenc has trouble with the audio of some xvids. sometimes you need to load the video in virtualdub, switch on full processing mode, save the wav, load the avi in tmpgenc, select the wav as audio source, then encode.

i have nero 6. the file is a 715 M xvid/ac3 file. i tried burning it with nero and was able to burn but no sound.
then i downloaded the ac3 nero plugin and tried it and nero says the file is too big to fit.

did you convert the sound to mp2? because dvd's can only play vcd's with mp2 sound, not ac3.

i tried something in vlc, open file and streamed output to file using mpeg-1 with video codecs mpeg1 and audio coded mpga i think.
it didn't have mp2 option.
any other way to convert?

how do i burn after i have the mpg file? if i use nero it wants to transcode again. :(

tmpegenc should encode an mpeg with mp2 audio. as for burning...just turn off "create standard cd" and nero won't ask you to reencode it.

and diko is only for mpeg2 video..aka dvd/svcd.
