DivX/XviD Interlacing Artifacts (DirectDraw Problem?)

I have a problem with a few DivX, XviD, and probably other MPEG-4 video files. A few (not all, or even most) files have a problem with the left 15-20% of the screen where there seems to be an interlacing problem, or where the chrominance seems to be shifted the the side on every other line (not sure what that means, but it sounds like it looks). This happens windowed and fullscreen, and the same portion is messed up both ways.

BUT, if I drop down the hardware acceleration to the point where it disables DirectDraw/DirectX, the problem goes away. But this also messes up fullscreen mode in Zoom Player (video is not zoomed to full size, sits in corner of screen with black background). I've tried reinstalling codecs, but I have a feeling this isn't directly related to them.

Setup:
ASUS P4S8L (Pundit)
Onboard video (SiS 315)
DirectX 9.0a

Anything obvious I should try?

Have you tried using a video card instead of onboard video?

That would be my first guess.
