Whenever i play a divx it takes much more CPU to process the video than usual, and if i fullscreen it my computer cannot keep up. It takes 100% CPU in fullscreen but the sound plays just find, the video plays very slowly and does not stay syncd because of how slow it is going. I have tried 4.12 4.11 and 4.02 of DivX. I am on a 1.33ghz athlon, 512mb ram, abit kt7a-raid with windows XP. I know others have this problem but is there a way to fix it?

My postprocessing levels are set to the minimum, and i have tried several players (windowsmedia, bsplayer namely)

Please help!

More then likely the problem your have is the divx4 codec choking while trying to play back divx3.11 encoded files. What you need to do is uninstall the divx4 codec and install the divx3.11 codec. After the divx3 codec is installed reinstall the divx4 codec and make sure you click no when asked "Do you want to use the divx4 decoder to play all divx3.x content". After that your files should play fine unless your problem is caused by something else.

^^^^^ Sounds like it to me too......my old p3800 with 384 ram and Geforce2GTS played movies flawlessly....so it's not a hardware issue methinks. Try getting some movies encoded in the 4.+ format and see how those work.

Oh and BTW, make sure you run your movies directly from HDD, not from CDROM for optimum performance....I've noticed it runs much choppier when played from CD......Tried it with both a Creative 48x and my TDK Velocd 12x10x24.

The actual problem i found out was caused by the nvidia 23.11 drivers. I reverted back to 21.83 and my movies played flawelessly.

Hopefully nvidia will fix this! Tnt2ultra is my video card btw.

Wow, I never would have expected that to be the fix, but I guess you learn something new everyday.

rooster, I have played my movies of rather high bitrate rips in a 8x32x dvd-rom that usually only benched at 16x read...since all dvd-roms only need to run at 1x to play dvd movies which is heavy amount of data then it should have no problems running on any cd-rom running at least 10x...1x dvd-rom is close to equal that of a 9.x speed cd-rom...

Do you have cd-rom you are using on the same channel as main harddrive???

I also play my divx rips perfectly on a 600p3 laptop with a 4x dvdrom...not sure what that eqautes to in cd-rom read speed but I imagine it is no more then 24x cd reader...

Edit: creative is usually crap and I had one that had a lot of issues with cd-rs...and most cd-roms I have benchmarked have never benched the cd raed speed they have listed let alone divx avi's that are extremely compressed...Try running cdbench99 or neros benchmark on any of your drives with the cd-r of one of your divx movies in and you will see what I am talking about...
