I have a number of questions that I need answers for before setting up my HTPC. Thanks in advance for all answers!

1. Is there a video card that decodes divx in hardware?
2. Does anyone know if there is a better player (performance wise) for divx than WMP9?
3. Are there any better Divx codecs than the ones you can download at www.divx.com?

Thanks a ton!

1) There's a decoder card available (can't remember the name) but it'll only decode certain types of DivX. If you're got a fast enough CPU, don't bother.

2) It's debatable - I find that WMP works as well as anything else if the right codecs are installed.

3) I wouldn't say 'better' but there are a number that may be required to decode certain content - Xvid is a fairly common example. Do a search for the 'Nimo' codec pack and the 'FFDShow' codec pack - they contain most of the specific things you need.

There suppose to be MPG4 optimizations coming in a form of codec or driver update to the 9500/9700 family..........just get a 2ghz+ cpu and you shouldn't worry about playback. The best dvix codec is Nimo codec (bundle codecs in one), do a search for it on google. There at version 5 now i think, it plays any file I can find on kazaa flawlessly.;)

SigmaDesigns have one

<a target=new class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://

And here's their take on DivX

The REALmagic Xcard supports Divx? Video versions 4.02 and later. Content using version 5.x must not use ¼ pixel motion compensation (QPEL) or global motion compensation (GMC) to be compatible. Version 3.x cannot be supported since it is not ISO MPEG-4 compatible.
