DivX problem with TV out

I have a Dell Inspiron 3800 with Windows XP and it has a ATI Rage Mobility with tv out. The TV out feature seems to work, since I can see my computer desktop and stuff. But when I play a DivX with Microsoft Media Player or GDivx, the screen where the divx is playing just shows up as black on the tv. The Divx shows up fine on the laptop screen and the rest of the picture on the tv out is fine, just the box inside media player where the divx should be is black. Also when I try to play video with either Real player or quicktime I get black where the video is supposed to be. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
 
try updating your vid drivers - your problem is that it's not properly outputting the overlay surface (which is used to display videos) so all you are seeing is a black box.
