using the latest Nero and my Lite-on 40x burner... I've tried a few things like enabling overburn and finalizing the cd but it still tells me that the cd does not have enough space for the file

so what tricks do I need to do to get this burned? yes I am using 80min/700mb cd's.

is there a place I can get cd's that hold more than 700mb? I have never seen them in any stores around here

ahh i forgot this is anandtech, naziism goody-two shoes.. doh.

forget what I said .. um the video is like a divx of a home video and stuff, so theres no dvd and i want to be able to watch the movie directly off the cd, not copy it to hard drive and unzip/unrar when I want to watch it, ya know. ;)

and I swear i tried making it a VCD and it still didnt work but I can try it again, I'm at work now but when I get home I'll give that one more try

u have to check off over burn as a expert feature.

then when it bugs u it'll ask burn anyways:p

u can easily go up to about 718 minimum on most cdrs easy.

i am pretty sure I enabled overburn in expert features already but it bitches when i click burn and says there is not enough free space and doesnt give the option to burn anyway? or maybe i missed that

Just stop being annoying and give him the answer.. it's his own eyes, so he could squint all he wants trying to watch the movies off a telesync.

With that.. here's how to do it with Nero.

so basically I just need some better cd-rs than these cheap 700mb discs i got at office max ? nero is detecting that even with overburn it still wont fit ?

and its no squinting involved, or telesync... dvd quality ya know :D

edit - This movie is a divx .AVI file, can you make a SVCD with Nero by dragging an AVI or dont you have to re-encode it into some special MPEG format ?

if you cant figure it out. use virtua-dub
adjust the bit rate of the movie slightly and save it
You should easily be able to get it dowb to 705MB( i.e. burnable easily)
plus you wont compromize quality as much by just changing the bit rate by say 5K o 10k

I don't think you would be able to play it if ya shave off some mem...

I tried playing an incomplete divx download, didn't work

hehe.. yea if you get a DVD rip, then the quality is decent enough for you not having to squint. Anyway, you don't need to overburn or anything. I have several 800MB DiVx copied to my 700MB discs just fine.

You'll have to convert the AVI to MPEG format to play it in SVCD.

Different concept is involved here, he would get a video editor and cut like the credits out of the movie and re save it, it isn't the same as having an incomplete file, it is the complete file, just minus the credits.

use winrar with compression set to 0 (ie no compression) and having it rar it up to a 700mb file and then a 12mb file. burn them both to different cds and then if you ever want to watch it unrar then to your hd. unless you plan to watch this thing every week or something it will not be a problem.

i hate that method.. can't play it off the cd :p But it'll work. I would reserve for something like a 900MB divx.

just use virtual dub to chop the credits. resizing is something i never thought of doing... heh.. wouldn't this require it to recompress? And well, it takes a bit of time...

You can make a video cd from an avi with nero but it requires a plugin to reencode it as an mpeg. That pluging can be purcased on Nero's website. Or you could just reencode it with TMPGEnc as an mpeg and to shave a few megs off of it drop the ausio bitrate down to about 112 or something then make a video cd out of it with nero.

u got da funky version of nero:p i think i tried a version that gave me pain. and overburning.. once u turn it on u should be able to burn 1gb on a disc, well it'll fail of course, but even if it claims theres not enough space it'll let u choose to go ahead anyways:)

did u set max cd length to something absurd like 100 minutes inexpert features? thats what i do.

i'm just using 5.5.3.0:p

as for reencoding, don't bother.

u can buy 99 minute cds if u really feel the need to over burn to the max:) if your burner supoprts that much.. tomshardware.com had a bit on that. but either try other software or another ver of nero.

I'd advise against compressing it into a zip or rar file. You'd have to uncompress it each time you want to watch it. PITA.

Don't go out an buy special CD-R's just to fit the DivX movie on it. Waste of time.

Also, re-encoding it into a VCD or even SVCD, may make the quality worse. Everytime you compress, you're losing quality.

Unless you have a friend who starred in the movie, and want to see his name scroll by at the end.....cut the credits out. Sometimes you can cut out a few seconds in the beginning (when the Paramount mountain comes on for example) and it'll save you MB's.

713MB isn't that bad, you should be able to cut the credits and easily fit it on one 700MB CD-R.
