Divx clips repeatedly crash my computer

When I'm playing video clips encoded in DIVX with Windows Media Player,
it always crashes my computer. At random points, I'll get the blue
screen of death. Other times, it just freezes the computer at a frame.

This only happens if I copy a clip to my harddrive. If I read it off
a slow 4x CDROM, it doesn't crash. Is my computer too fast for it or
something? Or is it a harddrive driver issue? Or is it just the DIVX
Codec's fault?

I have a 1GHZ Athlon with 256mb SDRAM & Geforce2 card, along with an
IBM UDMA/66 drive.

Any thoughts, help, is appreciated.🙁
