Anyone notice this?

When I play divx movies that I've downloaded, they work fine. However, none of my divx movies that I've burned prior to installing XP work in Media Player 8. They all play the audio without any video. Is this some kind of built in deterrant to divx within Windows XP?

i have been playing burned dixv movies in XP so I don't think there is any blocking being done...check your installed codec...

Maybe the audio to your cd drive is messed up, either enable digital ouput or make sure the analog cable is hooked up

Which codecs have you installed? Maybe you have installed the 4.01 and have not opted to let 4.01 play divx encoded with older versions?!

PeteyPete's correct. I've had some older divx stuff not play well in anything other than The Playa with divx4

I found a way around this issue which worked for me. The issue with the sound not working with some older Divx files deals with the windows media V2 codec that some of them are encoded for. What I did was installed 3.11alpha to get the hacked WMA v2 codec, then installed the divx 4.01 codec, and told it to play all 3.11 content. Hope this helps.

A little OT on this issue - I find that Divx 4 is really jerky playback. If I enabled using it for Divx 3 content, that jerks too. I reinstalled and asked not to, and now only Divx 4 content is jerky. I have a VP6, 2 X PIII 933 MHz, ATI Rage Pro AGP (Expert@work) video card at 1280X1024 and 24-bit color, 768MB RAM, Win2K SP2, Media Player 6. Jerkiness is when playing at 200% size.
