I don't believe wmp plays divx but there are free players you can download

my divx movies play just fine in windows media player 10. just go to divx.com and download the free codec. just install the codec, not the player and it will work in wmp10, at least it does for me.

ffdshow is a much more complete package of codecs, and provides much better performance than the official divx codec.

Just a warning note if you happen to install free DivX codec. With Free DivX codec comes lot of goodies to keep your PC prone to data collection. GAIN (thank God, new DivX codec releases don't come bundled with this anymore) and other spyware gets to you. The best practice is to remove them after installing DivX using tools like Ad-Aware etc.
