didn't you read my massage?
I wrote that I am having problem with the new Div x on my XP and I just wand an add on for my media player 8 to run DIVX (instaling the DIVX doesn't let me watch divx on my media player from some reason).

I have another related question - why I am unable to view all unfinished movies (movies that are not completly downloaded) and is there a way to allow me to go to any part of a movie (there are a lot of movies that I have to watch completly just to get to my fevorite part...).

Please don't be rude. Your 2nd message is much better explained than your first.

If you have divx installed, you can watch unfinished movies (except for a couple odd .avi filetype). MPEG files excluded.
If you have divx installed, you can go to any part of a movie. You can't fast forward in some .asf and .avi movies.

Seems to me that you don't have divx installed. If you say its installed, uninstall it, try again and make sure you using the right package for the right OS (since for some programs XP is grouped w/ win2000 based applications instead of the usual 95/98/Me grouping). If that doesn't work. Try an older version of Divx.

I am not rude but I expect people who answer me to read what I wrote (I am a moderator myself in another furom).
now:

1. I do have divX 5 installed - it is making all sort's of problem on my xp - mostly my system just get looked down.
2. I have reinstlled it severl times with no help.
3. I am using divx 4.1 and it works but it is unable to show most of my partaly downloaded movies.

what I really need is just my media player to be able to show all file formats & partaly downloaded movies - for this I need some sort of a codec peckage and this was my original request!

I think the first reply from ivwshane successfully answered your question there - lose the attitude and read (and digest) the reply before bashing man.

I dont have an attitude. I have problem with people that write and don't help.
"Wouldn't you just download the windows divx codec for that" - this is not helping - the media player itself doesn't download the codec and I didn't get any link so this isn't helping...

You do seem to be a little testy. Calm down a bit.

Now, go to www.doom9.org. They'll have a lot of codecs to download (including divx3 and 4). download and install those. These codecs are as close to "add-ons" as you're gonna get.

You may not think you're displaying an inappropriate attitude, but I'd be willing to bet that you don't react to people that way in person. If you spoke to someone that way where I live, you'd be likely to get poked in the snoot for it. You need to realize that people, not even people like you, don't express themselves perfectly. In an online exchange there's always a chance for miscommunication, and intolerance of others doesn't clarify anything. It just pisses people off.

As it is, I'd be just as happy to see you leave without a solution.

DivX 3.11 alpha - it appears to me that some people don't know what CTRL-F is... so learn!!!
DivX 4.12 - the brand new DivX codec from the projectmayo guys. No relation to DivX3.x whatsoever, but downward-compatible.
DivX 5 basic - lastest DivX codec by DivXNetworks. The successor of DivX4.
DivX 5 Pro - free version with extra features but contains an additional app that displays ads every now and then.
DivX antifreeze 0.4 - allows you to play beyond freeze-frames (for DivX3 only)

these are all the codecs they have - they are not add-ons but 3'rd party players (non media player software).
non of there links work, but even if they would work this is not what I have asked for.

what I need is somthing that would allow me to watch Divx on my microsoft media player 8.

my reaction is completly within the normal - if someone don't want to help - fine by me - but if someone does want to help he should read what I wrote (or at list ask before giving an unhelpfull answers).

Well, whenever I play (attempt to) a different type of file in WMP it will download the necessary codec if available.

The auto search and update function of WMP was what I understood the answer to be?

Of course I have not been able to play all downloaded movie files using only WMP though.

iddo you are mistaken, a codec is the instructions to the computer for how to decode a divx file, it is true that some codecs come with their own stand alone players, but you don't have to use them, if you install divx 3.11 alpha it doesn't come with it's own player and will only play divx on wmp or real player (or some other video software possibly) often times when you ask for help you have to meet the repliers half way, be willing to read up on the topic, and even if their advice doesn't help you, thank them anyways, that is just common courtesy.

I know that a codec is just an "instructions" or a "software" that sometimes comes with it's own player but as I have mantioned I installed divx 4.1 & 5 and tried using my media player 8 and the movie didn't work (it did work on the divx 5 but the plyer gave me all sorts of problems that didn't go away).

so I will ask again, is there a codec (like divx 3 for example) that will let me see all divx on my media player (again the divx 5 & 4 didn't do the job).

Actually if you read my reply you would have seen that I was asking a question;

<< Wouldn't you just download the windows divx codec for that? >>

I have some good links with places that could help you out and point you in the right direction but since you didn't bother reading my post someone else is going to have to help you.

<< divx 3.11 alpha >>

should do the job, but if not you might have some other type of conflict, it might be helpful to know which os and video cards you are using at least.

If Divx 5 won't do it then I would guess something else is to blame. But do a search on Google for the Nimo codec pack...it has just about every codec you could possibly need.

If you're having trouble playing DivX files with any codec properly installed, chances are that the DivX files could be corrupt or are not actually DivX files. You mentioned that you can't play incomplete DivX files, and this could be the reason why. If you can't re-download them or resume the downloads, you could try playing with VirtualDub to salvage what is actually in them. But VDub relies on the proper codecs just as WMP, so your only option could be to re-download them.

BTW, would you mind posting or PMing the forum which you moderate, so as I could avoid going there? ;)

1. my English isn't that good but a question that starts with 'wouldn't' sounds more like an ironic question then a real question. at any rate even if it is a question I don't really understand what you are asking (Wouldn't you just download the windows divx codec for that?) - there are a lot of divx software and I don't know of any named windows divx, if there is you should have wrote (windows divx software, or alike). but never mind.

2. I have win xp pro & gf3 & det 23.12.

3. "There is something else wrong with your system" - well you know it's microsoft after all - but again just saying it doesn't really help me.

4. PliotronX - what you are saying is interesting but you have to remmber that the files do work on divx5 but the program itself is making me problems (I have re-installed it a couple of times with no help).

5. I have installed the 'NIMO' but still nothing...

I have found that some movies just plainly refuse to play in WMP, but play flawlessly in other programs such as The Playa and WinDVD. I also personally prefer WinDVD over WMP for playing movies.

I think the DivX support for WMP, even with the correct codecs installed is very minimal for some movies.

I would suggest you try a piece of software like WinDVD if you are unable to get WMP to play the movies, as i have done.

Try this:

Go to Start, Run:
Write "mplayer2" and run it ... it's Windows Media Player 6.4

It's much lighter than WM8, could be a solution. Open your movie ... if an error message appears, report it here exactly as it is.
If all else fails, uninstall NIMO ... it will get rid of all traces of your Divx codecs ... now proceed with a Divx 4 Codec install and try everything again.
