It has menus now. Its mainly targeted at competing with DVD and for 20.00 includes a conversion program. Well worth it. This should make my media server hold a ton more stuff. Hopefully someone will add batch conversion. Compression is 10 times that of DVD without compromising quality.

Quick math tells me a 200 gig hard drive can hold around 500 movies. Thats Sweet.

As long as the quality is REALLY that of DVD, it's OK...

If it continues to be like what I see floating around on the 'net, then it's not worth the trouble...

OK, I've seen the samples...

1) Blockiness in fast-moving scenes
2) Garbage around letters (in titles)
3) Still unresolved issues with intense red-coloured areas.

Conclusion: Considering the bitrate of the sample videos is 2566 kb/s, I find it far from good-looking.

Quality is at the mercy of the person who encoded it. Some try to save too much space.

HD-Divx is a reality. Ive been watching HD divx for a while. Good rival to WMV9 and TS files. Hopefully Divx6 will have improved on the compression. Some TS movies pan 4-6Dvd's. Like LOTR.

The spyware was really only in the free version that I was aware of.

How do you convert to divx? I downloadt he trial version of Divx create bundle. It says to just drag and drop the files into it. But it apprently doesn't convert straight from the DVD's VOB files. I assume maybe you have to convert the Vobs to AVI or something first?

Sounds like a bad encoder (person) to me, not the codec. All my xvid and divx 3.11, divx 5 etc videos look much better than "DVD" quality at very low bitrates... that's the beauty of mpeg 4.

I'll have to do some extensive testing with divx 6.
