Anyone already having tried encoding stuff?

I think he means he wants the codec without that crappy avi player they are bundling divx 5.0 with right now.

I was able to play freshly rendered divx 5 clips on both last night with no problem.

As for dixv 5 I'd have to say that it sux compared to Windows Media Video v8. I rendered a 9 min clip with nearly the same mbit settings and I even gave a nudge to divx 5 to help it out a bit and with WMV v8 the file came out about 9 Megs less than the divx one and the WMV clip had way more quality than divx.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that when it comes to Compression/Quality the Windows Media Video v8 MPEG4 codec it still King.

Does the divx5.0 installer install the divx player automatically or does it ask if you want to?

It installs the DIvX player automatically, I couldn't choose not to install it.

thanks, Egrimm!

sticking with divx4.12 until they release just the codec... I guess the bundled player messes around with file associations...

It doesn't, my avi/DivX-files are still associated to Windows MediaPlayer, the only files that are associated to the Playa is .divx

NicColt, when you use the Windows Media V8 Encoder does it show up as an internal encoder to Windows or are you using the GUI command line encoder?
