Not sure what hte big deal will be. She missed her open enrollment date for benefits and can't adjust them unless there are 1 of 3 events that happen, including divorce.

So we will divorce so she can change her elections.

What will the big deal be?

a co-worker of mine decided to drop our company health insurance due to how crappy the new plan is, they are raising the monthly $ and switching from a set copay to 'coinsurance' which is 25% of all costs
his wife is disabled, so they are just going to put her on medicare/medicaid and he'll go without insurance

Hopefully these kind of issues will be addressed in health care reform.
Hopefully.....

Hate to break it to you, but missing one's open enrollment window at work is not the government's fault...

How long did the OP's wife have to enroll for her 2010 benefits? What was her excuse for not enrolling? Wonder why the OP left that information out?

it's because i'm partly lying. She didn't miss it, but would have if i didn't remind her today. Was curious what people would think of if we just agreed to divorce temporarily so she could "re-up" her insurance.

You have got to be kidding ...

This is the most moronic thing I have ever seen on ATOT ... and I've seen a lot of stupid stuff.

if you do this ... I don't know what to say. A divorce over missing an open enrollment date. If you both do this ... you deserve each other.

You guys have a health care system that can be likened to a patient with an infected giant gaping wound. And the best you guys can do is just BARELY, maybe, pass a bill akin to placing a small baby bandage over said gaping wound. Face it without something real the patient is going to die.

If it's entirely consenting on both sides and it's done just for financial reasons, meaining there is no trouble in the mariage, then I don't see the big deal. Could be a nice, albiet rather strange, romantic conversation piece for the 2 of them.

Doesn't her company have a correction period. Our open enrollment was the last 2 weeks on October, with a correction week in December to fix enrollment issues. You might want to check and see if they have a correction date.

The cost of private insurance is so great that one would divorce (and then presumably, remarry?) to find a loophole is crazy. Couldn't you just go uninsured for the year?
