Divorce question

A friend of mine married in Florida but they reside in a different State. She and her husband have separated and it looks like a divorce on the horizon.

Which State's laws will apply to this divorce (regarding asset distribution, custody, whatever else)? The State they were married in (the State on their marriage license) or the State that they live in?

Thanks.

The state in which they legally reside?

IANAL.

I would think where they reside since that is where their assets would be divided.

<----Married in FL and Divorced in UT and now back in FL

You generally file in your state/county of residence.

Check your state laws to be sure.
