SampSon and KarenMarie, I don't see how you can try to associate this proposal with women who believe in equal rights in the work place. It has absolutely nothing to do with them, in fact it's just the opposite. This proposal is for the women who did not take advantage of what equal rights laws affored them. This is for the woman who went the traditional route, either the "no need to get an education cause my husband will be the bread winner" , or the "I have an education but I want to be the traditional stay at home mom so I'm not going to work or just work part time, it's not like I'm going to need a full-time career".

This would not apply to women who took advantage of the changes equal rights laws afforded them and got a good education and got a career for themselves. Don't go blaming this on them, it's the opposite.

what's beeing proposed involves an ever dwindling population of women.

This should teach everyone - both men and women alike - that marriage is a serious step in life and not just some ho-hum thing you do because one feels like it. People get married today on a whim like it's buying a TV. It's disgusting.

i agree. i hsave seen a few 1-2 year marriage's.

hell my SIL was married 2 years and had a boyfriend move in within 3 months. if you are not in it for the long haul do not get married.

Saying that i still say GET A PRE-NUP. it outlines everything if the worst happens.
If a women/man stays home to take care of the kids/house/bills etc (every report i have seen says it is better for one parent to stay home with the kids) then yes they are intitled to half of everything baught and made while married. Also i agree with a set amount on alimony and child support.

if a person is to get alimony it should be limited to 5 years or re-marriage. in taht 5 years they damn well better go to school and get some skills or find a good job (if she finds a good job NO more alimony either).

You know at one point I never thought people could be influenced by what they saw on tv or celebrity shows but I think I over-estimated the collective intelligence of society.

1. are happily married?

2. have enough natural assests to make it through law school?

FWIW the client usually dictates the tone of a divorce proceeding. I'm sure if couples wanted an amicable seperation the attorney's job would be a lot easier and a little less despised.

Edit: lawyers can't handle family law cases on a contingent basis unless it is the recovery of due child support so any type of claim on future earning would go to the other spouse not the lawyer.

BTW I know a guy who got married and started a family. After a couple of kids he decided he wanted to give med school another shot, more specifically neuro-surgery.

I am not sure but I suspect this is about a 10 year or longer career path. Now that he is actually earning significant income and wants a divorce should the wife be thrown out of the house with the two kids and her years of domestic engineering experience?

No, but neither should the husbands "future earning potential".

Also as soon as another guy's penis hits that vagina ALL alimony should be cut off... u hit it, u support it.

If they marry a guy with money, they get to enjoy that money- while they're still with him. If the woman decides to take off, she left that guy and his money. She can't just sit there and expect that he'll continue to pay her sorry ass just because she was a gold digger who did a hit n' run on him.

If things like this actually become law, it will destroy marriage. Who'd ever want to get married when it means financial doom for the guy who ends up getting divorced?

I think it'll lead to people living with each other but not being married. Hell, that's what I'm doing. Never marrying a bitch. It's always good to be able to kick her ass to the curb and knowing that she's not entitled to anything of mine.

In most marriages, the husbands don't get any one of those so it's going to be hard to get that outside of the marriage with the same woman.

While that sounds funny at first, if you think about it, it's the same principle. The woman depended on the man during marriage to provide financial aid, and the man depended on the woman to cook, clean, and get some lovin'.

When they get divorced, the courts are seeing that the woman continues to get financial aid, but the guy is cut off from everything he once got from the marriage.

I say no sex/cooking/cleaning, no money.
