Ditched GPU OC, got better video performance

I have a GTX 770 that I've overclocked with ASUS GPU Tweak since Day 1. I don't game, but I figured why not get a free performance boost?

My electric bill was too high this month, so among other power-saving changes I stopped using GPU Tweak.

Much to my surprise, I have way more GPU headroom for video playback now. I use madVR as my video renderer, and it does its magic using the GPU. I can now use higher settings than before without maxing out the 770 or dropping any frames. Movies look better than ever, and according to GPU-Z I'm only at about 50% load.

I have no idea why this should be, but I thought I'd share it for the other non-gamers here who also use madVR.

That's funny... I have a 760. When I OC it, I get worse scores on Valley, for example. Don't know why...

I dont know about MadVRs particular behavior with this but I know at times in gaming or benching (with kepler and maxwell), you may have to find a sweet spot for the OC. Mainly due to these cards boost feature behavior. At times, if you have a high OC, the card may dial back some of the boost to keep in line with the power or temp targets. By slightly lowering the OC, it may perform better. Or by raising the power and temp targets to the max in the proper software (ie, MSI-AB, not sure if Asus GPU Tweak has that). This of course can vary greatly from card to card.
