Ditch dell?

I just got in on the 8400 deal from dell. My very first "built by someone else" computer. Already I'm kinda feeling boxed in (hasn't even shipped yet) cause I know I'm going to want to overclock it. The GTO if it unlocks and O/Cs like what I've been reading will give me ~12k in 3dmark03.

My question is, I've read they use a special ribbon cable for the lights/switches, but is the power supply standard atx? I was thinking about just ditching the MB, or would a case be needed too? I'll probably keep it stock till the new 775 matures and PCIe/DDR2 and swap it all out.

Edit: Please don't flame and tell me I'm stupid for buying dell in the first place. I priced it all and I couldn't build one close to what I got it for, and I really want the 19" LCD. Cost me a grand total of $168 out of pocket. So no flames please :)

i don't hink you will have any trouble overclocking a video. In my 4600 i overclock using powerstrip.
i just read your post again. does that say u spent 168 dollars or did you miss a 0?

he spent a lot more than $168, but it ended up costing him a lot less. not sure exactly how he managed that.

Thanks for the answer forcesho, guess I'll end up getting a case/mb when the time comes. Yeah the deal was more then I shelled out, but all that came out of my checking and to my dell acct was $168. Anyway thanks for the info.

If it is the same deal I got, I paid $1047 total for about $2000 worth of computer and monitor. I too have mostly built, at least for the past 4 years but don't plan on OCing this box. Maybe the video card if I can find some reliable info about it. So far there has been little posted on the X800 SE.
