One thing I can recommend is to fill in the gaps by doing volunteer work or anything that you can put down. I had a selecting official and he hated to see gaps. He even said that he did not care if you put down that you volunteered at your kids school passing out drinks, boy scouts, etc… as long as you show you were not just sitting around doing nothing.

You make it sound not only like HR is necessary, but mandatory. No company needs an HR department, period.

BTW I wouldn't hire you based on your lack of understanding of English. Two, to, too!

For some places HR is not needed. But for larger ones it is based on the benefits and other requirements it is needed. HR is the one that handles insurance problems, employee conflicts, etc… At the Fed Level we also are more legal advisors then anything. Our rules are law and we can get jail time if we do not follow them. One HR person recently got suspended for 45days for telling an office how to hire the person they wanted.

I put in 30-40hr weeks at school for about 6months when unemployed. I screwed up my gpa too much, from when I used to party all the time, to be a paid student worker. They were trying to waive the gpa requirement to get me a paid student worker, because I put in just as much if not more work than the paid student workers. Despite 5 people voting for me it was all up to the dean which turned me down. I volunteered another 2 40hr weeks before I stopped going on a semi-regular basis. I still go in early and volunteer around on days I have class.
I've had ongoing car issues, and it's not like they are covering my car expenses. I wouldn't mind it if it were alot closer but it's almost a 20mi drive.
My car can't pass emissions, and I got laid off when I was looking at a new car, so I can't lfw too far away from home. I just wanna get closer to Chicago for more job availability is all.

But if folks are in a position to put in time in volunteer to stay busy then do so.

ugh this thread is depressing, at this point I'm just going to develop a mental illness, a drug habit, and be a crazy bum. Not necessarily in that order

Ironically, I just got off the phone with my last employer, they were checking up on my availability. I haven't heard from them since February. I was really hoping to find a new job before I heard back from them though. Fuck.
