We are upgrading our database software over here so we are doing tons of conversion work. Going to a newer version of PeopleSoft with lots of new modules and the like. My question is this:
I am looking for some software to try and get approved to make my life easier. Are any of you familiar with software like this. I'll explain the basic functionality that it will need to have.
If we have 50 warehouses, and then we have lets say 20,000 "ship to" locations, we want to find what would be the closest by zip code. We found this software "PC Miler" that has an eXcel plugin that you can use a formula to compute distance - and this might work well - except that we close warehouses down and open new ones often. So the idea of this software would be the need to include a simple change interface. If warehouse "A" closes and the 2,000 ship to's that were assigned to that location will just need to be swapped to the new closest location - since that warehosue may not get replaced, and if it does it may be a long period of time. And so if it does get replaced six months later, we'd need to add that address back in and have the distance calculated once again.
Thought I'd post it here in case anyone has done something similar for the company they work for. Thanks
