I installed the distributed.net client as a service on my win98 SE computer, so it startes when you start the computer
Yesterday I only got 310 blockes of RC5 cracked.
Before I had it installed as a service it did about 300 blocks a day and I didn't have it running all day because my brother restarted the computer and didn't start up RC5 again.

I was wondering if it crackes slower when its installed as a service? maybe windows gives it a lower priority level?

Here a LINKto my history page. I think I installed it as a service September 7.
The two days it was at about 700, I think I left it on overnight.

I ran it as a service and never noticed a problem, in fact it was better because it would crack even when people were logged off the PC.
Do you have a fancy 3D or heavy graphic screen saver? And or power settings that cause the PC to go into suspend mode? Are there other apps running?

How much the PC is on, how much you use the PC for other things, heavy graphic/3D screensavers, and power settings can all affect your keyrate. One good way to check is to go to the RC5/OGR/ECCP RC5/OGR/ECCP Speed Page and enter the MHZ of your PC and see what the normal output is.

Good luck with it! :D

I had a problem similar to that awhile back. My PC would throttle back if on rc5 was running when I had it as a service. I ended up having to leave IE open as well, then the PC wouldn't throttle down, atleast until I got off my lazy but and messed with the power saving settings.
