Distant Radiator Possible?

I have an E8400 and 8800GTX at stock speeds on air cooling. Originally I intended to have some fun OCing them, but the sheer amount of heat that they produce has made that impossible. Mostly because the room noticeably heats up, but I also wouldn't want to push the temps on the processor/gpu much higher for longevity reasons.

Today, as I sat baking sitting at the computer, I had an idea. What if I used water cooling and mounted the radiator outside of the room? It would probably have to be mounted above the door however, which might cause some problems with extra distance and height. The other possibility is right by the window, although that is an even longer distance.

So that brings me to a basic question. How much distance/height increase can a standard water cooling pump handle?

You will need a more powerful pump than those types used for pc cooling. Look at magnet drive pumps by little giant or iwaki (the aquarium guys are familiar with these) to accommodate higher head pressures.

I've seen a couple of projects with the radiators further away. One guy put one inside of his crawl space...

Interesting projects, but of course they require a bit of work.

It should work fine, but you'll have to be careful with tubing outside of the case and your pump. Depending on how far it is, you could just double up on regular pumps or get an aquarium pump modded for PC use.

Well, my case is pretty close to the door, and up on a desk. This is a very rough estimate, but I would say it had between 4 to 5 feet outside of the case to go, and most of it would be at a fairly steep incline. Would a aquarium pump be overkill or required?

I assume that in general the more flow the better, but some of the aquarium pumps I've seen will move the water through a lot quicker than a normal computer cooling pump. Is there a point where the water is moving too fast?
