So when my oral surgeon cut up my gums to remove 2 impacted wisdom teeth he stitched the wound up with some of that special dissolving stitches. I thought this was a blessing thinking this would be trouble free as they'd gracefully disappear and there would be no pain in having to have something pulled out.

But I am starting to wonder...

It's been almost a week and while the pain for the most part if finally gone (first day I didnt have to take pain meds) I have this incredibly annoying feeling in my mouth of wanting to suck something foreign out of my gums and I think its those partially dissolved stitches that are now in a gummy kind of consistency and I can feel it between my teeth and stuff.

Ugh it drives me crazy...

Anyone else have this experience or am I insane?

It takes a good week for those sutures to be resorbed. sometimes it's up to two weeks before they are totally gone. it hasn't even been a week for you yet. give it more time.

Maybe try running some floss through there, if you have that sensation between your teeth

Actually the first time I looked at my mouth after surgery I saw some tan colored stuff in between my teeth and I was like WTF I was only drinking clear soup how did food get caught up in there and I took a toothpick and tried prying it out but it was resistant and I started to bleed a little so then I was really perplexed.

I called the doctor and about it and he told me yeah that the stitches and he actually wrapped some of it around my teeth so its supposed to be like that and to leave it alone. I still have no clue why he needed to do that. I was having crazy thoughts that this dude did not know what he was doing and cut up half my mouth out and had to try and stitch it back together without telling me what went wrong!

Did you go to a general dentist or an oral surgeon for your extraction?

Sounds like he placed some periodontal packing, which is a light pink color... could look tan. It's common to place that over surgical sites. It helps protect the area from food impaction, trauma from your toothbrush, stuff like that. Eventually the packing just comes off and it's ok if it's swallowed or you pick the piece out and discard it.

Likely nothing went wrong with your surgery. Stop being so paranoid.

He is an oral surgeon my regular dentist recommended

This stuff was actually threaded and wrapped around the base of my last molars so it wasn't even over the surgical site. That's kinda why I was having crazy ideas in my head about it...
