Dissapointed in 3Dmark2001 scores

I recently went through a ton of stuff to get my new Geforce2 GTS card running good in UT (I currently hit average 50-60 fps at 1024x768x32), and saw that there was a benchmarking program to see how good everything was actually running. I used this software and was very impressed at my score at first a 998!!!! then I looked here and saw people hitting over 4000, since then my score has continuously dropped, lowest was in mid 700's. Would reinstalling sucky windows ME help much? Also I noticed my network card is on the same IRQ as my video card, what is the best way to get it off of there? Please help me again, I greatly appreciate all the help I have received so far, I am still a |\|3\/\/b|3 here!!

My system is:
1.0 Ghz T-bird
Abit KT7 Raid
640 MB Pc133 memory
30 gig 7200 rpm maxtor HD
Windows ME
Geforce 2 GTS 64 mb ddr (visiontek)
soundblaster live value

nothing overclocked.

Well the first thing I always ask is have you installed the latest VIA 4in1s? Also the sharing verywell could be an issue but I'll let a GF/WinME owner stab at it.
Ohh and whats your directX version.....

Yes I do have the later 4in1 installed did that the other day, I am currently trying to switch drivers on my card from the 12.41 to the 12.90 I hear this one is the one to use! And I also just downloaded the lastest directx. When installing different drivers you should uninstall the old card firs in the device manager and then install the new ones, correct? if not please inform me, also I cannot figure out how to install the 12.90 drivers, there is no setup or install or anything how do I run it? thanks again

700 is low but it also depends on what resolution you are running it at...if you ran it at 1600x1200 at 32bit then it's wouldn't be anywhere near 640x480 16bit. I suspect the sharing of the irq between the video card and the ethernet card is your culprit. Remove the ethernet card and put it in a different pci slot. Alternatively, you could go into the bios and force whatever slot the ethernet card is in to use a certain irq that is different from the video card.

Well, asside from the Via drivers, it might be WinME. That sorry excuse for an operating system really screws up so many things. You might wanna try going back to win98 or using win2k. Or better yet, get yer hands on a beta of WinXP. I'm on a 650 P3 CuMine @ 910Mhz and a Geforce 2 64MB with an Asus CUSL2 and 384MB PC133 2:2:2 memory and I get 3253 in WinXP, that's up from 2497 in Win2k and 2693 in Win98.
If that doesn't work, you should try using 3dmark2000 and seeing if you get the same bad results (for your system, it should be somewhere around 6000-7000 for your system).

I seriously doubt it's windows ME that is causing the slowdown. I have a tbird 1gig on a kt7a raid (running at 100 fsb) w/ a visiontek gts card with windows ME also so our specs are very similar. I got around 2800 in 3dmark2001 at 1024x768 16bit.

I just hit a whopping 760 with the 12.90 drivers. WTF is wrong with this!!!

This is at 1024x768x32
no antialiasing
double frame buffer
texture format compressed
z-buffer depth 24 bit
D3D Hardware T&L

is this setup alright?

Sorry never thought to ask resolution,I just assume that if you dont mention you mean default. Moving the NIC to another slot might help I have a 3Com NIC that insists on IRQ11,I even put it in anouther computer and it took IRQ11 on my PC.;)
Also with the DX8.0a check this link for turning off your debugging in the sound the MS (oops) left on. Link to DX-De-Debug

Ohh and BTW you say my "New" GTS card, the old card wouldn't have been a Voodoo was it?

why yes the old card was a voodoo3 2000, but everything is completely gone from that card.

Not the network card, I just took it out and ran a benchmark with nothing else on the video card IRQ and got a 762.

One more thing, the benchmark test skips over a few tests because it says something about no hardware present, I know pixel shading is one it skips over, is this common or is something seriously wrong?

Some of the 3D#2001 tests like the nature test only run on the GF3's so thats not a problem. I am still wondering about the Voodoo3 Files that may be left behind? Do you mean that you reformatted first(if so stop reading)or did you just uninstall them. There's a few registry entrys the Voodoo's install that tend to hinder the next card in the slot. I know there's a simple guide out there to remove like 4 entrys and it's very straight forward but I cant find it. :( I did find an old one on the Voodoo2 and it gives you the right Idea on what to look for but isnt as good as the one I'm looking for V2-OUT. If I find it though I'll post it.

Also just for giggles goto www.pcpitstop.com and run the test, once in a while this thing actually finds something usefull to tweak and cuts back on trobleshooting if you get lucky. Going through the Bios with the cards install guide in your hand cant hurt.

On a totaly unrelated note since your system specs are learing at me while I reply. Have you tweaked your system.ini using over 512Mbs of RAm.

Sorry I couldn't be more help,I'm not very GeForce savvy and just going after general stuff. Hopefully one pops into the thread for ya.

And since I totaly forgot about this guys site give it a look http://www.avondell.com/ww2ol/main.html it's a tweak guide born from WWIIOL but it has just about every tweak and trick you can find. It comes from the dern game being so demanding but has born a great tweak site.

Yep, your system is screwed up.
And NO, it has nothing to do with Win ME, (compared to '98 or 2K that is).
You "think" you have removed all of the 3dfx crap, but that is all there is left to blame it on.
The only way I was able to get rid of all the 3dfx crap, was to reformat and reinstall all.

After that, my 3DMark with a "Duron" 750@1GHz, Abit KT7A, 384ram, SB, and WinME went up to:
Visiontek GF2 GTS 32meg, default test (1024x768x32) scores 3540
Hercules GF2 "MX" 32 meg, default test (1024x768x32) scores 2846

When doing a benchmark comparison test, ignore all settings in 3DMark 2001, and
make sure you ONLY run default benchmark. That way you will be comparing the
same thing 99% of the testers are running at. I would double check FSAA. Turn
it on and run the benchmark. It should drop a ton. If not, then it is already on!

Sharing video and NIC here. No problems.

Reformat and reinstall.

BTW, after fixing the issues that are keeping your score in the bottom 5%,
you should notice a nice increase in performance in other games, like UT.
