Displayport versions and cabling

I have an Acer XB270HU (displayport only) display that I was driving happily with a pair of 780s in SLI, but now I've built a new rig based on a Gigibyte GA-Z270X Gaming 5. I'm so far only using motherboard video, but while I can put HDMI out to a different monitor, I can't get the Acer to recognize a signal from the displayport output. I have a 1080 to install, but I'd love to see this work from the mobo first if it's possible. I'm reading posts here and there and they all want to know what cable is being used, so I'm guessing between versions there must be different cable standards? I've googled around but have not found anything that explains what works with what and why. Can anyone point me to a reference, or just explain it if it's simple? Thanks, zz03

I don't know of any specific differences based on DP version, but it's essential that you use a DP cable that is "VESA compliant", because non-compliant cables pass voltage on one of the pins, which can cause issues. (I think it's pin 20, that's "NC" on a VESA-compliant cable?)

Do you think I can make any assumptions re vesa compliance based on the fact that all was well with the previous rig and the 780s working fine?
